Differently from their debut release, The Ginko (Zahr rec), dated 2006, they put aside the post-rock boom, lowing down fuzz and distortions, so to opt for a more narrative writing, beveled and cognitively classical, balancing audio samples (Black Widow's tribute to M.L. King, Portrait of a Woman) with poetic french spoken word (Tiranno), a few male vocals, and confining the wild indie-rock energy to the single tracks of Playground and Damn Right, that I'm sure that Congleton from The Paper Chase would totally approve (nevertheless he helped our guys in mixing their former album).
The first track Uragano ticks like a time bomb, differently, it releases a tragic shock wave, introducing the compositional nature of this record, emotionally closer to Rachel's than Mogwai, even when voltage and tension turn up (Szela), it is still passive-aggressive heart-attack (Cello#2).
Recorded by Sacha Tilotta and mastered by Bob Weston, this new musical journey for Mashrooms is an intricate collection of happily depressive tracks, digressive yet not static - seen the vivid geometries they rule after - where the instrumental ensemble flourishes in the ordinary grace of a bitter melancholy, looking for (and often finding) the perfect filmic parenthesis.
